Last week, Proterra marked Manufacturing Day by announcing a first-of-its-kind workforce training program in advanced electric bus manufacturing.
Other partners in this historic investment into the development of a high-quality, highly skilled, electric bus manufacturing workforce include Los Angeles County Department of Workforce Development, Aging, and Community Services (WDACS), United Steelworkers (USW) Local 675, Jobs to Move America, and Citrus College.
Designed in partnership with Proterra, the new Electric Bus Manufacturing Technology training program is set to welcome its first cohort on Oct. 9. The program will advance diversity and job quality in the cleantech manufacturing sector and target historically underrepresented groups while helping fill union jobs at Proterra’s manufacturing facility in the City of Industry, California.
Proterra and USW Local 675 also announced the signing of their first collective bargaining agreement. The collective bargaining agreement sets clear requirements on how workers’ voices will inform the development of training programs, safety, and other important factors affecting working conditions.
