The Exemplary Student Service Award is given annually to a student who serves their school, community, city, region, or state using skills they honed through speech and debate. Coaches or administrators may nominate a student who upholds the highest standard of service, one of the core tenets of our Code of Honor, for recognition. Current member students at any grade level are eligible for nomination! The winner is selected by a panel of past National Student of the Year Award winners.
Learn more about the award and read a profile on last year's recipient here. Pick up some general tips on what makes a student stand out in award nominations in Knockout Nomations. Then when you're ready, submit a nomination by February 7 via this form!
Inspired by recommendations from the African American/Black Coaches’ Caucus and in partnership with Wiley College, we have created a series of freeclassroom and tournament resources to celebrate Black History Month! The collection includes:
More than 40 spark leaders posters featuring Black speech and debate coaches and alumni! This series is designed to help you commemorate the month in your school or community.
An editable template that allows you to create posters featuring members of your team with easy to follow instructions!
Free practice tools including Extemp questions, Congress legislation, and Impromptu prompts!
A literature collection containing more than 175 works by Black authors and playwrights. We encourage you to share this collection with students as they select pieces for Interpretation or Poetry events.
