Overload 1 » In this group activity, one student reads their case and another is required to give a rebuttal to it. The next debater must also give a rebuttal to the case but is not permitted to use any of the answers used before. Continue this process until everyone participating is stumped. This will assist not only with coming up with diverse arguments but also the case reader’s construction. They can accommodate the responses into the case and make sure they have answers.
Overload 2 » In this variation of the rebuttal drill, the debater reads a case and afterward is cross-examined by the first opponent for five minutes. The second opponent may again cross-examine for five minutes but can not ask any of the same questions (or question the same aspect of the case) as the previous questioner. The debater being questioned will have a great idea of all of the possible ways someone might see case position The questioners develop a diversity of cross-examination strategies.

Nominate Students for Leadership in the NSDA
The Student Leadership Council (SLC) provides feedback and recommendations throughout the year to ensure the NSDA is meeting students’ needs. This is a unique way to influence the organization’s future and an excellent addition to any student’s resume. If you know a student passionate about improving speech and debate, please tell them about this program and nominate them!

High school member students who will graduate in 2026, 2027, or 2028 are eligible for nomination for next year's Council. Coaches may submit nominations by February 15 through a standard online form, which sends a copy to both the national office and the district chair, if applicable. Each district has the opportunity to nominate one member student for consideration. District winners must be reported by the district chair by March 1. Each country or U.S. territory also has the opportunity to nominate one student. The final SLC will be selected in April.
