It's Summer in Bethesda!

Whether you live in Bethesda, work in Bethesda, or simply pass through Bethesda, summertime is the absolute best time to get out and enjoy the amenities Downtown Bethesda has to offer!

One of the features of Downtown Bethesda is its walkability! When planning summer activities, there's no need to hop in your car and struggle with parking in the most congested areas. There is absolutely no reason to introduce visiting guests to Washington, DC traffic!

Here are some tips and ideas to keep you out of your car and in the sunshine!
  • If you are meeting someone in Downtown Bethesda and you aren't able to take transit the entire way, park at one of the many under-utilized parking garages downtown, and hop on the FREE Bethesda Circulator to take you the rest of the way!
  • If riding your bike to your downtown destination is just a hair too far, you can park in a garage and take a Bikeshare bike or your own bike to where you are going. In particular, the Capital Crescent Garage is located right along the Capital Crescent Trail, which will take you on a lovely journey into DC and Virginia! Added bonus: your car will be in the shade during your ride.
  • When preparing for visiting guests from out of town, put together a Welcome Basket of transit maps and information, pre-loaded SmarTrip Cards, trail maps, and Capital Bikeshare information, all of which can be requested from our office via our map maven, Allison Kemp. You can also suggest that they download apps on their smartphones for the Bethesda Circulator, Capital Bikeshare, and teach them how to get transit directions on their favorite GPS app! Capital Bikeshare also has some great suggested bike rides on their website.
  • Kids love riding buses, and did you know that during the summer, the Circulator isn't the only bus where kids ride free (well, everyone rides free on the Circulator, actually)? Kids can hop on Ride On buses at no charge all summer long!
