HR Transformation Project Updates
What is included in the HR Transformation Project?
The HR Transformation Project includes multiple phases of development and process improvements. With the first major launch, we will roll out the new Self-Service Center. The Self-Service Center will include the following major tools and updates:
In addition to the Self Service Center, we will launch the Agent Workspace which will serve as the HR Team’s new interface for Service Now.
How are things going?
We are excited to share that the new Self Service Center is expected to launch in mid-February. As you may remember, we made the decision to extend the launch date in order to allow HR more time to train, as well as give the project team time to work on a few unique solutions that were not originally expected. We are now beginning the testing phase of roll-out which will continue through January.
Will there be training?
The team is currently developing training materials and a schedule for hands-on training. We will keep you apprised of training opportunities as they are solidified and become available. You can expect to see invitations for these training sessions in the coming weeks.
More information will be shared in coming newsletters, but if you have questions about the project, please reach out to Theresa Dockery.

November is National Heritage Month and National Diabetes Month
In honor of National Heritage Month, you'll find here information about the Miami Nation of Indiana, which Erin Oliver belongs to. She is a tribal council member and involved in language preservation and education efforts - feel free to reach out to Erin if you have questions and would like to learn more!
This month we are also raising awareness to learn about different types of diabetes and how we can advocate for people that live with this disease. Type one diabetes is an autoimmune disease that occurs when a persons pancreas stops producing insulin. Type one diabetes affects children and adults and can be diagnosed at any age. People with type one diabetes must manage their diabetes with the use of insulin - either via insulin pump or injection. Type one diabetics must also measure their blood glucose levels (either by wearing a continuous glucose monitor or by finger pokes usually 6 times a day.) Diabetes is a 24/7 disease that requires constant management.
If you or someone you know lives with diabetes, the resources below may be helpful to you.
Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday in the United States. In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies. It wasn't until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

What is one thing your colleagues should know about you? - I tend to always mention my family first. I've been married to my husband, Ted, for 15 years and we have two kids - Nora, who is 13 and in 8th grade and Jimmy, who is 11 and in 6th grade. We are really enjoying this stage in our family life, where the kids are old enough to share common interests, be fun travel companions, and are immersed in sports and other school activities.
Something about me personally, beyond my family, is that I love being part of a community or team. And as part of that, I will be first in line for any team building or community spirit activities. I was the dorm spirit commissioner when I was a student here at ND and I'm your girl if you want to rally people for potlucks, door decorating, scavenger hunts, etc. I've really enjoyed all of the great activities that our HR Engagement Committee has put on since I've been here - it's helped me to get to know my new colleagues and feel a part of our team.
What is one of your proudest achievements in your career thus far? - This is a hard question - I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved in lots of really interesting projects in my time at ND. I think I'd have to say it was my role as co-chair of the year-long 50th-anniversary celebration for the Hesburgh Library in 2013-2014. The Hesburgh Library is such an iconic Notre Dame landmark and holds a special place in the hearts of so many current students, alums, and employees. It was really special to get to spend a year highlighting Fr. Hesburgh's bold vision for the Library and how the Library evolved over the years. We planned a series of anchor events as well as a lecture series, physical exhibits, and an online 50 milestones series. The celebration was very well received by the Notre Dame community, and our campaign won the American Library Association's John Cotton Dana Library Public Relations Award in 2015. Most importantly to me, it cemented my friendship and close working relationship with the Library's new Marketing and Communications Director, Tara O'Leary, who I collaborated with on many other initiatives over the following 9 years.

Spread the #HRLove
"This past week there was a difficult problem with a PAF in Personnel Actions. After a strange error and many attempts on my part I reached out to Amber to see if she could figure out the issue is. She is very busy and had her own tasks to take care of, but took a couple hours of her afternoon to help me resolve it. Additionally, she then explained why the error was occurring so that I am able to troubleshoot in the future. I’m so thankful for her help!"
- Danielle Barkowiak
"To Becky and Steve - for always being willing to take the time to sit down and teach reporting and Tableau skills to those who are seeking to learn. Even when they are busy, they will find time to pour their knowledge into others"
- Scott Hershberger

About a week and a half ago, I was listening to Up First, a brief podcast released every morning by NPR. Amidst updates surrounding the midterm elections and the war in Ukraine, a correspondent began talking about the recent COP27 climate summit. The discussion was blow after blow as the host asked hopeful questions that were immediately shut down by the hard reality that the time for action was yesterday; and now, we need to do everything we can to make sure the pending climate disaster isn’t as catastrophic as it could be.
It was devastating to hear; but I think these words should be motivating, a call to action. While large-scale, global, governmental, and administrative change will be the most effective and bear the largest impact, I’m a firm believer in grass roots change as well and, from a religious perspective, personal responsibility to be better and reduce my carbon footprint. When I talk to people around me, I’ve found that they tend to feel similarly; they just don’t know where to start or what resources are out there. The adage, “You don’t know what you don’t know,” rings true here. That’s why I’ve decided, in collaboration with our new colleague Emily, to start a small sustainability-focused blog for HR in order to provide resources, advice, and other helpful content to aid my colleagues and friends in HR in their own sustainability journeys and to become an office that is distinctly dedicated to caring for our common home.
As an initial step, I’d recommend taking a look at the data here to really hit home just how much the climate is changing. As one of my favorite sustainability content creators often says, “You can’t do all the good the world needs; but the world needs all the good that you can do.”
