This May 11–17, 2025, marks National Prevention Week (NPW)—an annual observance led by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). A week dedicated to raising awareness about substance use prevention and promoting mental health and well-being across communities.
This year’s theme, “Strengthening Communities for a Brighter Tomorrow,” emphasizes the power of collaboration, education, and proactive strategies to build resilient, healthy environments. From youth engagement to policy advocacy, NPW 2025 encourages everyone to take part in shaping a healthier future.
The Prevention Technology Transfer Center (PTTC) Network plays a pivotal role in supporting prevention professionals through training, resources, and technical assistance. Here's a spotlight of 2025 events and resources from around the network.

NSDUH Data Spotlight: Adolescent Substance Nonuse
Find data on the nonuse of substances among adolescents aged 12 to 17 from the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). Estimates include illicit drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, and nicotine vaping.

| Support for Use of Naloxone and Other Opioid Overdose Reversal Medications to Prevent Overdose Deaths
Monitoring the distribution and impact of opioid overdose reversal medications such as naloxone is essential to optimizing overdose prevention strategies and improving public health outcomes. This Statistical Data Profile, the first to use performance data from two SAMHSA grant programs, examines the distribution of FDA-approved opioid overdose reversal medications, including naloxone/Narcan. The Data Profile also presents the training of first responders, community organization staff and other individuals to administer the reversal medications and provide other support services.

| Contingency Management May Help with Alcohol and Cannabis Use for Young Adults with First Episode Psychosis
This small pilot study (funded by NIDA and SAMHSA) tested both standard CM and family-based CM with young adults in a CSC program for first episode psychosis to see if the approach would be realistic and helpful for this group.

Stimulant Co-Use Negatively Impacts Treatment Outcomes for Opioid Use Disorder
In this study, researchers wanted to better understand how recent illicit stimulant use affects people who are starting treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD). They looked at how illicit stimulant use impacts treatment success, ongoing substance use, and treatment retention among people starting MOUD.
