Walsh University Earns Second Consecutive IMAP Award, Expands Workforce Training Opportunities for Ohioans |
Walsh University has been selected as one of just 12 training providers statewide—and the only one in Stark County—to receive renewed funding through Ohio’s Individual Microcredential Assistance Program (IMAP), securing a $498,000 award to expand its Skilled Technical Workforce training programs. These programs offer free, industry-recognized microcredentials in high-demand, technology-driven fields and have already demonstrated strong outcomes, including a 70 percent completion rate and employment gains for 42 percent of unemployed participants. With the new funding, Walsh will increase enrollment, launch additional cohorts, and broaden its offerings to include six specialized credentials, such as Polymer Chemistry, IT, and FAA Drone Technology, while continuing to partner with regional organizations to support career placement and workforce readiness. Walsh University alumnus and Head Baseball Coach Tim Mead has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Hall of Fame Class of 2027, one of just seven coaches nationwide to receive the honor. Mead, who has led the Cavaliers since 1984, will enter his 44th season this spring and is approaching an extraordinary milestone of 1,000 career wins. Under his leadership, Walsh Baseball has become a cornerstone program, exemplifying excellence in competition, academics, and community service.
Beyond the field, Mead has made a lasting impact on the profession through leadership roles including ABCA President and NAIA Coaches Association President, and he was recognized with the Robert E. Smith Achievement Award in 2017. Currently serving on the ABCA Board of Directors and as Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee, Mead expressed gratitude for the honor, saying, “I am greatly honored and humbled to join such an elite group of coaches… I have been extremely blessed to coach for 44+ years at my alma mater with outstanding coaches and players.” Mead will be formally inducted on January 8, 2027, at the ABCA Hall of Fame Banquet in Chicago.
