Hi Neighbor!
Â
I’m a pretty basic cook who tends to repeat the menu fairly often. Lately I’ve decided to break out of my winter repeat-a-meal routine.
Â
When occasionally teased with spring-like weather, I start looking forward to outdoor barbeques and packing up picnics. Instead of waiting for the weather to change, I’m discovering ways to climb out of a late winter meal rut.
Â
I read an article recently that discussed how most people order the same item time after time. That’s me alright. I’m working on shaking up takeout as well as trying new, easy dishes at home.
Â
A friend of mine who loves to cook is directing me.  I’ll suggest foods I have no experience cooking like tofu or eggplant and she’ll find an easy recipe. Then she walks me through preparation on zoom. It’s led to discovering some quick, terrific new dinners. It’s been fun and thankfully my friend loves doing it.
Â
Getting take-out is great too, knowing I’m supporting local businesses while simultaneously taking a night off from planning/shopping/cooking/cleaning up. Lately, though, I’ve also fallen into the same old take-out routines. When I place the order for a new dish and the server says, “Oh, that’s not your usual,” it’s pretty clear I’m way too predictable. So, I’m actively exploring options. It’s been surprising to discover something new instead of an often-repeated culinary experience. And this seemingly simple step has led me to begin seeking out new experiences in other ways, seeing new art shows, joining new book clubs and taking new walking paths.
Â
These are some great, local restaurants I’ve tried that offer tons of take-out options for experimenting: Dan Dan Ardmore, Kuma Wynnewood and Pietro’s Radnor
Â
Maybe these will start a culinary exploration of your own. Want to share your favorites? Leave a comment on the MainLine Neighbors Blog or email jane@mainlineneighbors.com
Â
PS: Below is a dining experience that’s 4 stars even without the food!
Breaking the routine, Jane

Cane Corso and German Shepherd Need Homes
Â
Cara, a 5 year old Cane Corso, came to All 4 Paws after a life spent raising puppies to send off with families. Now it's time for Cara to find her own forever family! This shy girl is looking for a quiet home with an experienced, patient family to help her gain confidence, but has learned so much in the time she has been in foster care. She will now come inside when called by her pet name, "Mama." When she first arrived, she wouldn't even make eye contact with her foster parents. Cara is crate trained, housetrained, and a lower energy girl. She could share her home with other dogs or be the center of their attention. Read Cara's full story and watch a video here.
Â
Spirit is an all around terrific and beautiful 2 year old German Shepherd rescued by All 4 Paws Rescue as part of a cruelty case. This beautiful soul weighed only 42 lbs and was near starvation. She has made a full recovery and is ready to find an adventure-loving family of her own! Spirit seems house trained, walks well on leash, knows several commands, and is incredibly eager to please. She has a medium energy level, and goes from Fetch Queen to "Relaxed to the Max" in 60 seconds. Her favorite things in the whole world are playing fetch and snuggling on the couch. She is looking for a forever family where she can be the center of attention. Read Spirit's full story here.
