Teaching Tips
This section is full of timely and evidence-based practices to apply in your teaching. Today's tips continue to focus on flexible and adaptive teacing strategies featured during the Adapt 2021 virtual conference (enroll in the Canvas course to view this and all other recorded sessions).
The Five Pillars. Jennifer Haddad Lingle and Judy Fowler offer their insightful five pillar framework to help educators "pivot with grace" during times of uncertainty. Their pillars include: flexibility, patience, grace, kindness, and professionalism. These principles can serve as a reliable anchor even in times of great uncertainty. For ideas on how to share these pillars with your students and integrate them into your own teaching practices, watch the full session via Panopto (slides available in the Adapt Canvas course).
Minimizing Technology Overload. If you're reading this tip, you may be one of many professionals experiencing what is known as "technostress." This combined feeling of overwhelm and anxiety related to keeping up with technology is completely understandable at a time that demands increased flexibility and adaptability in teaching. Fortunately, Director of ITS Learning Technology, David Kirkland, offers a great deal of tips to combat this phenomenon in his presentation on "Technology Overload - Tips for Coping during Operational Shifts."
HIP Teaching with Tech. HHS Instructional Technology Consultant, Mika Davis, astutely notes that, "UNCG has reimagined the Gen Ed curriculum so it’s the perfect time to add new and innovative tools to all classes." Her full presentation outlines essential technologies for teaching with High Impact Practices (HIPs) across all delivery methods with equity and inclusion in mind.
