Did you know what you wanted to major in before coming to GW?
I've never been one of those people who knew exactly what she wanted to do, and I'm still figuring it out. But, coming from South Korea, which is a fairly homogeneous country, seeing people from different cultures work together to reach the same goal was inspiring and led to my choosing International Affairs as my major with a concentration in International Development.
Why did you choose to take the MBTI, and did it help with career clarity?
Prior to taking the MBTI®, I had already taken the two other assessments offered by the Career Center, the Strong Interest Inventory and CiftonStrengths. I thought that in order to really understand myself it would be best to balance out the two with a third assessment. Receiving my results reaffirmed what I knew about myself with regard to my values, strengths and areas of challenge, which made me feel proud to be who I am, and continue growing. For instance, I noticed that with the letters N & F in my type, INFP, I learned that people with NF tend to be interested in potential for people's development and growth. This is true for me, and I see it being reflected in my choice to focus on International Development. So, even though I haven't decided on a direct career path, the MBTI helped provide and affirm a particular direction for me.
Would you recommend the MBTI® to others?
Yes, definitely! Don't solely rely on the MBTI®, or any assessment, to define yourself, but take it as a reference to better understand yourself.
