Detroit Lions to be Recognized at 2016 Hopes & Dreams Gala
This year our signature fundraiser will not only serve to celebrate HAVEN’s 41st year of serving victims of domestic and sexual violence, it will also allow us to recognize an important community partner with our Heart of HAVEN Award - the Detroit Lions.
Join us Friday, May 6 at the Detroit Troy Marriott, in your best cocktail attire for a glamorous, fun-filled evening that includes a seated dinner, silent/live auction, entertainment, and an exciting afterglow party. Click here to learn more about the event, to become a sponsor or to purchase tickets. Please contact Stephanie Holland at sholland@haven-oakland.org or 248-322-3705 with questions.
Now Serving Children in our START Program
We are dedicated to combating the horrible epidemic of sexual assault through comprehensive programming, including the Safe Therapeutic Assault Response Team (START). START nurses conduct forensic medical exams designed to collect evidence and document injuries after a victim has been assaulted.
Victims are also connected to a HAVEN advocate who explains the daunting legal process and available options. Last year, we provided 181 exams to women and men ages 14 and up. Because 15% of sexual assault and rape victims are under age 12, this year, HAVEN will expand the forensic sexual assault program to include children. Click here for more information.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Join us April 17th for a screening of The Hunting Ground
Here's what's happening this month:
  • Join us on April 17th for a special viewing of The Hunting Ground: A Startling Expose of Sexual Assault on US College Campuses. The film follows undergraduate rape survivors pursuing both their education and justice, despite ongoing harassment and the devastating toll on them and their families. A panel discussion will take place following the film. Food and beverages will be generously provided by Comcast.  Click here for additional details and to RSVP.

  • HAVEN is inviting businesses and schools to raise awareness about sexual violence by allowing staff and students to participate in what has now become known as International Denim Day on April 27th. Make a social statement with your fashion statement and show support by wearing denim. Click here for more information

  • Take Back the Night is a way for communities to come together and speak out against sexual violence, support survivors, share their stories, and promote awareness. Join the movement to eliminate sexual violence by attending our annual Take Back the Night event Saturday, April 30th. For more information, contact Averett at arobey@haven-oakland.org or click here
