Happy May,

Wow, Spring is flying by! May is the month to get outside and enjoy the beautiful warm weather. We've been busy getting our farm and Outdoor Learning Center ready by planting veggies, flowers, and more! We hope you'll get the chance to visit one of our locations during one of our events or volunteer days.

In this newsletter, you will find a recap of what we did this past April and what you can look forward to in May! Look for us on social media to get the latest news and be the first to sign up for events.

Please join us in celebrating the 21 amazing years Robin Dougherty has dedicated to Greater Newark Conservancy as Executive Director as she flies off to her next chapter!

To honor Robin, we are hosting a "Robin's Migration" fundraiser for her signature program, the Newark Youth Leadership Program (NYLP). She founded the program in 1999 to cultivate the future of Newark—its high school and college students. NYLP introduced more than 1,000 area youth to their first jobs, career exploration, and opportunities to continue on to college. Under Robin’s leadership, the Conservancy's education programs have reached tens of thousands of Newark's children over the decades.

Join us for our final Plant Giveaway of the season!

We'll have a variety of seedlings to meet your gardening needs! The Plant Giveaway will take place from 10 am-12:30 pm on May 8th at our Outdoor Learning Center on Prince Street. Plants are FREE but advance registration on our website is required.

Enjoy the outdoors AND give back

We have even more volunteer days this May!

Our in-person volunteer days take place outside and are socially distanced and safe opportunities for individuals and small groups. We offer volunteer opportunities during the week and on weekends at both our Outdoor Learning Center and Hawthorne Ave Urban Farm. No experience necessary! Our staff will show you exactly what needs to be done and get you all set up!

Family Fun in the Kitchen

Tune in to Ms. Shannon's first Family Fun in the Kitchen.

Follow along with Ms. Shannon as she hosts a special Family Fun in the Kitchen in honor of Earth Day. Using vegetable scraps, to limit food waste, we learned how to make delicious vegetable stock. We also learned some fun facts and basics about composting. Learn how you can be more environmentally friendly by limiting your food waste.

Second Saturday Family Adventure

On Saturday, April 10, we hosted our monthly Second Saturday Family Adventure program. This month, our program happened to be on the same day as our Plant Giveaway so we continued our Spring planting theme by teaching the children about repotting and taking care of seedlings.

Ms. Sarah led the children through decorating their own recycled plant pot and replanting a flower or vegetable in it. Families got to take home their new plant babies and let them flourish!
