My friend and I pray in Hershey Park. He walks through the park and prays the Lord’s Prayer. I pray the Lord’s Prayer when I arrive at the place of prayer under the trees. We pray Jesus’ own words when we say them out loud.
How did the disciples learn these words in the first place? They watched Jesus praying and asked him to teach them to pray. Jesus gave them simple words. Two thousand years later, across the world, people are still praying these words.
Why did Jesus pray? For eternity past, he had lived in communion with the Father. During his time on earth, he continued to commune with his Father in prayer. Best of all, he invites us to know his Father as our Father. Jesus shares!
What did Jesus know about prayer that we need to know? Our Father loves to give good gifts to his children. Earthly dads get it right sometimes. How much more does our heavenly Father give good gifts? If God could give us anything, what would it be? The Holy Spirit. More than anything, God wants to give us a relationship with himself. Will we receive it?
