Daily Devotional with Dr. Duane Brooks

Revelation 21:3
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

                I knew I had to marry a pianist.  It was in the young preacher’s rulebook.  Then I fell in love with Melanie and forgot all about pianos.  Some months later I heard she could play the piano and the organ.  Her mom Jo Catherine Freeman loved one song above all others:  The Holy City.  Nearly fifteen years ago her faith became sight and she entered the presence of the Lord.
                What will the Holy City, the New Jerusalem be like?  John had a front row seat to the city of heaven descending to earth.  He heard God’s voice coming from the throne describing the purpose of heaven coming down to earth.  God wants to live among his people.  
                Often when we dream of heaven, we speak in terms of architecture and opulence.  The scriptures teach us that heaven is primarily a place of perfect relationship with the Father and each other.  As believers we will be with the Lord.  We will live with God.  He will live with us as our Father.  We will be his children!  What if God not only prepares a mansion for us, but we are the mansion for him to live in every day of our lives?    
Pray with me the prayer we prayed Sunday morning:  Purify our conscience,
Almighty God, by your daily visitation, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.  Amen.
