Psalm 121:3-4
He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

New International Version (NIV)
               “At our age, we can’t afford to fall.”  My older brother and fellow runner was trying to make a point.  I mentioned a face-plant on a bridge which I recently endured.  Most runners I know will catch a toe, or trip and fall.  I fell the day of our oldest son’s wedding in 2013.  Then I fell in Zambia on a mission trip.  Scraped knees heal more slowly these days!
                I have known people who fell even harder.  One day on top of the world, the next plummeting to the pits.  It is easy to fall.  Is there any help?  David fell once with Bathsheba.  He didn’t recover until he confessed.  If our feet have not slipped, it is because God has helped us.  God is vigilant.  He never sleeps.  All of us doze off.  Sundays at about 3 in the afternoon usually get me.  I can be standing up, but I will fall asleep.  Not God though.
                One man could not sleep because he was deeply anxious.  During the night he felt like God said to him, “Go to sleep.  I will watch in your place.”  Knowing he was no longer in charge of the world helped the man go to sleep.  God is vigilant, always watching over us.  Good thing, too, because at our age, whatever our age, we can’t afford to fall.
Pray with me:
Father, help us to live well today and rest well tonight, knowing that you watch over us.  Now to you who are able to keep us from falling and to present us faultless before the presence of your glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
