Being a physician is so much more than simply diagnosing illnesses and prescribing treatments. It’s building a relationship with a patient and empowering them to take control of their own health and wellness. This month, we asked our members what it means to them to be a physician and why that role is important to them. Read more here.
Dr. Jeffrey Bumpous, Executive Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean of the University of Louisville School of Medicine, is dedicated to his role and the profession of medicine in our community and Commonwealth. “We have a commitment to something beyond ourselves, we have individual commitments to the patient and societal commitments to the population. We want to help the people in this region, and I don’t ever want to lose sight of that.” Read more in this month’s Dr. Who.

Louisville Medicine upcoming themes:
March – Embracing Change in Modern Health Care – due 2/1
The doctors’ lounge of 50 years ago is unrecognizable today. EMRs are the rule, paper records the exception. Telehealth and AI are present in most practices in some form. While not always the most popular, these changes to modern health care are the standard. How do you adapt to these changes to ensure that you are providing quality patient care?
April – Answering the Call to Medicine – due 3/1
A question that’s posed to physicians all the time: if you could do it over, would you do it all again? Would you restart from the day you applied to medical school? Handle residency differently? Through all the challenging years of training, a pandemic and everything in between, would you choose this path again and again?
Please reach out to Kathryn Vance at kathryn.vance@glms.org if you’d like to share your thoughts in an upcoming issue.
