Zechariah 4:6
So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty."
New International Version (NIV)
“If you want to get something done, do it yourself.”  Have you heard that?  This is one philosophy of life.  If it is to be, then it is up to me.

The prophet Zechariah watched as the priest Joshua and the governor Zerubbabel led Israel back in to the land after their captivity.  Nehemiah rebuilt the wall.  Zerubbabel sought to rebuild the Temple.  God gave Zechariah visions.  In case the leaders of Israel were tempted to trust in their own resources instead of God, Zechariah relayed God’s words:  “It is not by might, not by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord.

Sooner or later we will run into a project or a problem that is bigger than our own resources.  We won’t be able at that time to “muscle through,” or “think our way out of it.”  When we come to the end of our own resources and find ourselves helpless, powerless, we discover that God is there and that he cares.  His Spirit will make a way when there is no other way.   We can always trust him.  Trust him.

Pray with me:
Father, thank you for your overriding governance for good in our lives.  Forgive our independence.  As we trust you, empower us today.  Let us live today with eyes wide open to the work of your Spirit.  Since we live by your Spirit help us to keep in step with your Spirit today.  We pray in the name of the One who possesses all authority in heaven and earth, Jesus.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
