LG Health Foundation Donors Provide Scholarships and Awards to Nurses

"I have been working on 7 Lime as a Neuroscience/Medical-Surgical RN for two years now. Due to COVID, I have also been pulled to eight different units, being a charge nurse and orienting new nurses as well. Until a few months ago, I have been working 50-65 hours a week while also being a full-time student, but maintaining a 4.0 in obtaining my bachelor's degree. As a first-generation college student, I want to excel in what I do for future generations to follow.

Thanks to the generous support of the Binns Scholarship, I feel that I am one step closer to achieving my goals. In this unprecedented time that we are living through, this scholarship is very meaningful not only financially but emotionally as well. There have been many trying times and feelings of defeat as well as times of victory in and out of the hospital as a nurse. This is one win for myself that gives me a boost of strength to believe in myself and persevere through the good and the bad. Again, thank you for helping ease my stress, supporting the nursing community, and aiding in achieving the dreams I have in my life and my career."

Thanks to donors, Shannon is one of 27 nurses who received scholarships and awards this year during Nurses Week at LG Health. Over the years, the LG Health Foundation has worked with donors and families to establish several nursing funds and endowments, including the James H. Binns Memorial Scholarship Endowment, which Shannon and six other nurses benefitted from in May. We offered over $40,000 in scholarships and awards to our nursing staff in 2021, which was all funded by donors who are passionate about supporting our LG Health nursing teams.

Our patients and their families often ask how they can “give back” to those who have made a difference in the care they received through Lancaster General Health. Our Healthcare Hero program allows you to recognize a caregiver who has made a meaningful impact on your life by making a gift in his/her honor.

Here’s an example of how one donor was inspired to make a gift to the LG Health Foundation after experiencing exceptional care from Dr. Putney and the team at Family Medicine Strasburg.

United FORE Golf Event Raises Record Funds

On behalf of our Title Sponsor, Benchmark Construction, we want to thank all those who supported the Jay R. Bucher Memorial United Fore Golf Tournament on June 28 at the Lancaster Country Club.

With the help of Lindsay, a grateful patient who benefited from Child Life services at LGH, we raised over $128,000 for the Child Life Endowment at Lancaster General Hospital. That's a record number for this 19-year event! Pictured with Lindsay below is Brad Faxon, this year’s guest golf professional.

The Child Life program adds the immeasurable benefit of lowering anxiety, improving healing, and transforming the hospital experience for children and families in our community.

Donating Appreciated Stock

By donating stock that has appreciated for more than a year, you are actually giving 20 percent more than if you sold the stock and then made a cash donation. The reason is simple: when you gift your stock directly to a charitable organization, you avoid capital gains taxes. More of your gift goes to the organization you care about and you can claim a greater tax deduction.
