Colostrum Key to Successful Calf Raising Program

A sound colostrum management program should be the cornerstone to every farm’s calf management program. Calves are born with a naive immune system, one that does not have enough circulating antibodies to help fight disease. Because of this they are highly susceptible to disease for the first few weeks of life. Colostrum through transfer of passive immunity provides the kick start for a calf’s immune system.

Regional Dairy Educator Tina Kohlman shares how to evaluate a colostrum management program and how to determine causes for a failure of colostrum management.

Understanding the Changes to FoodShare and BadgerCare

Pandemic relief for FoodShare (Wisconsin food stamps) and BadgerCare (Medicaid) has ended, as of March 1, 2023. This means that recipients of both programs need to pay close attention to what the changes are and how they will affect their families. The Fond du Lac County Health and Well-Being Educator and the FoodWIse program has provided valuable resources throughout the local community to help those working with recipients of these programs receive assistance, if needed.

Welcome to the Team Kimberly!

Kimberly Clark is the new Human Development and Relationship Educator for Fond du Lac County. In 2019, she received her M.A. in Education from St. Mary’s University in Minneapolis. Prior to becoming a Badger, she was a Razorback from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. There she obtained her B.A.S. degree in Family and Consumer Science Education with emphasis in Human Development. Kimberly most recently facilitated educational learning at Fond du Lac High School emphasizing personal skills and financial literacy among other focus areas. Currently residing in Fond du Lac, she and her husband Sean enjoy spending time together by frequently attending live music performances.
