NYU Clery Campus Notice

On Wednesday, July 23, the NYU Department of Campus Safety received a report of a Motor Vehicle Theft of an electric scooter that occurred at 8:24 a.m. This incident occurred at Schwartz Hall, located at 345 East 24th Street, in Manhattan.

The complainant, an NYU Dental patient, reported that they locked their e-scooter to the railing around a tree near the main entrance to Schwartz Hall on Wednesday, July 23rd, at 8:00 a.m. When they returned at 11:49 a.m., they realized the e-scooter was stolen. A security camera review showed the theft occurred at 8:24 a.m.

The complainant declined to file a police report with the NYPD.

Below is a photo of the individual observed during a security camera review. The individual approached traveling west on East 24th Street from First Avenue, used a power tool to cut the lock, and took the e-scooter. The individual returned to First Avenue, traveling north, before turning onto East 25th and continuing west.

In addition to parking in a gated or designated parking area, consider using a heavy duty lock and/or chain to secure your bicycle or scooter.
Do not leave your bicycle or scooter for extended periods of time, such as overnight.
Consider registering your bicycles and other valuable property with Campus Safety's Violet Tag program, which provides community members with the opportunity to place an adhesive sticker on valuable property, so that if it is lost or stolen and recovered, it can be returned to them. If you witness behavior that seems odd or out of place, trust your instincts and report it to your nearest Campus Safety Officer.
Keep an inventory and photographs of valuable items for reference in case of loss or theft.
