Finance & Administration and
the Office of Government & Community Relations

Good Afternoon,

We are delighted to announce that four of our Finance & Administration (F&A) teammates are recipients of FY23/24 SUNY Chancellor’s Awards! Please join me in congratulating Rachael Redhead, Lauren Brookmeyer, Steven Altman and Joseph Manitta on their well-deserved achievements.

Rachael Redhead, Director of People & Culture
SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service
Rachael joined Stony Brook University in 2014 as an HR Coordinator in Finance & Administration. After working in F&A for three years, Rachael was recognized for her achievements and appointed to Senior Human Resources Business Partner of DoIT in 2017. In this position, she continued to assume additional responsibilities, routinely going above and beyond the scope of her role and was appointed in 2021 to her current position. Today, Rachael is an integral member of our F&A team, serving each of our VP areas and their unique goals, nuances and functions. Steadfastly committed to treating each request, from each area, with her total focus, utmost attention and an enthusiastic attitude, Rachael is always willing to help, and is someone who treats all members of our faculty, staff and student populations with respect, diplomacy and dignity.

Lauren Brookmeyer, Assistant Vice President for Federal Relations
SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service

Lauren began her tenure at Stony Brook University in 2014 as the Assistant Director of Government relations. In 2017, she relocated to Washington, DC to lead SBU’s first-ever DC-based Office of Federal Relations. In her current role as Assistant Vice President for Federal Relations, Lauren is responsible for developing and leading strategic lobbying campaigns to secure tens of millions of dollars in federal funding for SBU each year in addition to  advocating for the passage of federal legislation and policies supportive of SBU’s mission. A master communicator with a dive-right-in demeanor, Lauren’s passion for bringing Stony Brook to Capitol Hill has been a tremendous asset to our institution.

Steven Altman, HVAC Engineer II
SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Classified Service

Arriving at Stony Brook in 2014, Steve’s first post at the University was as a Plant Utilities Engineer I, where he worked for four years before being appointed to a Plant Utilities Engineer II position. In this role, Steven operates, repairs and performs maintenance on HVAC and other mechanical equipment across Stony Brook University. Steven, and his team of fourteen, are also responsible for reading and interpreting control logic diagrams for our building automation systems and completing wiring schematics for many of the mechanical systems of our campus. His ability to troubleshoot and solve problems, coupled with his leadership qualities, have made Steven an integral member of our Campus Operations & Maintenance team.

Joseph Manitta, Trades Specialist (Electrician)
SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Classified Service

Joseph started at Stony Brook in 2015 as an Electrician working on West Campus, before being appointed as a Trades Specialist (Electrician) in 2018. In his current role, Joseph is responsible for the installation and repair of our campus electrical systems, including maintenance, inspection and troubleshooting. Daily, he inspects our campus electrical systems to identify hazards, defects and the need for repairs and ensures our compliance with the National Electric Code. Joseph also supports the HVAC Department at the University with all electrical needs. His high regard for personal safety, and the safety of our University’s systems, has made him a leader in our Campus Operations & Maintenance Department.
