(Omaha, Nebraska) – The Nebraska Arts Council is pleased to announce the 2016 Governor’s Arts Awards honorees. The biennial Governor’s Arts Awards is Nebraska’s premier event in recognizing individuals and organizations that shape our state’s artistic landscape. The impact of the arts, and these honorees, is felt in the classroom, the economy and the community. Honorees are as follows:

Emerging Leader: Andrew Norman, Hear Nebraska (Omaha)
Excellence in Arts Education: Ernest Richardson, Omaha Symphony
Excellence in Arts Education: Ruth A. Meints, Omaha Conservatory of Music
Heritage Arts: Greeley Irish Festival (Greeley, NE)
Leonard Thiessen Award: The Johnny Carson Foundation (Beverly Hills, CA)
Organizational Achievement: Arts For All, Inc. (Omaha)
Organizational Achievement: Joslyn Art Museum (Omaha)
Outstanding Artist: Jamie Burmeister (Omaha)
Thomas C. Woods III Partner in the Arts: Margaret Hornady (Grand Island, NE)

The public is invited to share in the celebration of these honorees at an upcoming dinner and awards presentation, hosted by the Nebraska Arts Council and Nebraskans for the Arts. The ceremony, “Imagining the Future of the Arts,” will take place Tuesday, March 22, at Embassy Suites La Vista (12520 Westport Parkway). The evening will begin with a cash bar at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner and the awards presentation at 6:00 p.m. Business or celebratory attire is requested.

Event tickets are now available for purchase on our website via credit card or by calling Carla Podraza, Nebraska Arts Council business manager, at 402-595-3934. Reservations must be completed by March 14.
