Our Movement for Violence Prevention (MVP) youth educators have been busy back in schools discussing healthy relationships and domestic abuse with students.
The Northstar Youth Outreach Center team has been busy offering drop-in support to young people at Maplewood Mall, and recently hosted our bi-annual Express Good event! Staff, youth, and community members enjoyed free henna, self care kits, and delicious food. Stay tuned for another Express Good event this spring!
Our Inspiring Youth workers continue connecting with 1-1 with youth out in the community, while our Safe Journeys team supports young residents of our transitional housing program with their goals at our Maplewood site.

How to Host a Friendsgiving |
Friendsgiving is a great time to celebrate your "chosen family": think of friends who make you feel accepted, safe, and who's friendship you are grateful for.
Friendsgiving can also be a time to celebrate community and bring people together, so it's OK to invite people who don't know each other yet!
| |
If someone has a dining table to use at their place, perfect! If not, try a midday picnic in a local park or renting a room at a community center (typically ~$20/hr).
You can also pick a community event to attend with friends, or join us at Northstar Youth Outreach Center's Friendsgiving on November 19th from 4-7pm!
Traditional fall flavors like pumpkin and cranberry are classic hits, but Friendsgiving can also be a fun opportunity to share cultural dishes or set a fun theme like "breakfast for dinner."
Make a simple sign-up sheet where everyone writes down something to bring and enjoy a unique potluck!

Thanksgiving: History, Impacts, and the Need for Reparations |
The story of Thanksgiving most often taught in U.S. schools (a happy meal of unity between Native Americans and European settlers) obscures the brutal realities of the state-sanctioned genocide that decimated the Indigenous tribes of North America and their languages and cultures.
Many Native American communities in the U.S. do not celebrate Thanksgiving on November 27th, but instead a National Day of Mourning that honors the resilience of Native communities and mourns the theft of Native lands, destruction of language, tribes, and culture, and the millions of lives lost.
Non-Native people who wish to stand in solidarity may consider alternate fall gatherings with family and taking action steps to support their Indigenous neighbors this fall.
Click the WHITE buttons to learn more about the history of Thanksgiving, the ORANGE for Native American resources and events in MN, and the BLUE for action steps to take towards land reparations and Indigenous solidarity.
