AMO releases analysis of Ontario's 2026 municipal elections |

|
Ontario’s 2026 municipal elections this week brought significant change to local leadership, with nearly four in 10 council members new to municipal government and two-thirds of incumbents who ran re-elected. AMO’s analysis also found that reported voter turnout increased to approximately 36 per cent, up from 33 per cent in 2022, although participation varied across the province.
As new councils prepare to take office, AMO will support their transition into municipal leadership through its Local Leadership Foundations program, helping elected officials build the knowledge, skills and relationships they need to serve their communities effectively. Learn more and sign up here.
AMO thanks all municipal Clerks and Returning Officers who shared their election results. Their contributions helped bring results from across Ontario together in one place, making it easier for residents, candidates and media to follow the election and understand the changing municipal landscape.
|
Note: The analysis reflects unofficial results, with 394 of 414 municipalities reporting as of October 29, 2026. Figures may change as additional results are submitted and certified.
