Dear IAR Member,

Did you see this email we sent late last Tuesday? It provided suggested contract language to deal with future delays or possible cancellations and addressed attendance at closing. If you haven’t read the email, we strongly encourage you to do so. We hope that by keeping Indiana REALTORS® on the same page that we can bring certainty to local markets.

As expected, the email stirred up some calls. IAR Legal Hotline attorneys compiled some of the more frequently asked questions from the last week and their answers. Please review.

We organized a letter to Governor Holcomb asking him to address the county government office closures that we know are slowing or stopping real estate transactions. That letter also asked the Governor to speed up implementation of the electronic notary statute set to go into effect July 1st. Indiana is one of 12 states that have enacted such a statute. Co-signers included the Indiana State Bar Association, the Indiana Bankers Association, the Indiana Mortgage Bankers Association, and the Indiana Land Title Association.

Additionally, we have been in touch with the Holcomb administration regarding the possible issuance of a stay-at-home order. We shared industry concerns regarding a possible essential services list under such an order. We are confident the Governor’s team will consider our concerns. With that said, we also know conditions are changing rapidly and state leaders have many issues to balance. We trust that decisions made will be in the absolute best interest of all Hoosiers.

Even though you may be seeing news of other states delaying, we have every reason to believe the license renewal deadline will remain June 30th in Indiana. That’s because you may complete all CE online. The license renewal process has yet to open, but we still expect for it to be before March is over. Here’s our February 12th email with general licensing/CE info. Here’s our March 2nd email with info especially for newly licensed brokers.

Call RECP at 1-800-742-4067 if you need help registering or logging in. You can also email.

We have closed the books on February, releasing our summary of existing-home sales from the second month of 2020. Statewide, sales are up 7.4 percent from the year before. Also, both the median and average sales price increased for the 99th consecutive month.
