West Campus Permaculture Garden Provides Fresh Organic Produce for the Food PantryBig changes are taking root on the West Campus. The permaculture garden planted in 2015 has expanded and is thriving, with an array of organic vegetables, fruit trees and flowering pollinator plants. Located just steps away from the new West Campus Center, the garden adheres to ecological principles to create a resource-efficient and productive human environment.

School of Extended Learning Celebrates 100 years of Adult Education in Santa BarbaraOn Sunday, September 9, approximately 150 people attended the centennial celebration of adult education in Santa Barbara. In 1918, the adult ed program started with English and citizenship classes. Today over 1,600 classes are offered for adults to earn certificates and learn career and life skills. Read more...

Parents and Kids Learn Together at the School of Extended LearningAfter a five-year hiatus, free parenting classes are being offered again through SBCC's School of Extended Learning. Parents have a variety of subjects to choose from, including Toddler Times, Growing Times, Creativity and Preschoolers, Music Times, and Nature Walk.

| SBCC Establishes Pat Moorhouse and Bob Dinaberg Coach of the Year Awards
Director of Athletics Rocco Constantino announced that the department will establish Coach of the Year Awards beginning with the 2018-2019 school year. The awards will be named in honor of Pat Moorhouse and Bob Dinaberg, the only two former SBCC head coaches who are also CCCAA Hall of Famers.

SBCC Promise Changing LivesThe SBCC Promise is increasing the number of full-time students, leading to better overall success and to more transfers to four-year universities. The SBCC Promise provides regional high school grads the opportunity to attend SBCC full-time for two years free of charge, covering tuition, fees, books, and supplies.

Michael McDonald to Join SBCC Music Students in Benefit at the Lobero Theatre October 10Mark your calendars now for Wednesday, October 10, when the SBCC Foundation will present a special benefit concert featuring Michael McDonald alongside the amazing talents of SBCC Music students and faculty. The concert will also feature Tess Erskine, a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who is an alumna of the SBCC songwriting class.
SBCC students can attend for the discount price of $25. They will need to purchase in person at the Lobero box office and show their student ID. Proceeds benefit the SBCC Music Department.

| Atkinson Gallery Fall ExhibitionThe Atkinson Gallery will present Mourning/Warning, an exhibition by Tia Blassingame from September 7 - October 12. Blassingame explores the intersection of race, history and perception in her work. Mourning/Warning strips maritime warning flags of their primary colors and replaces them with muted browns and blacks to highlight the relationship of Americans of the African diaspora to maritime travel and the need for an alternate means of communication in times of emergency and duress. The Theatre Group at SBCC to Present Award-winning Comic Murder MysteryThe Theatre Group at SBCC is excited to present the comic mystery, THE GAME’S AFOOT by Ken Ludwig, October 12-27, in the Garvin Theatre, directed by Katie Laris and featuring some of the area’s best loved actors.

Fall Semester LaunchOn the Friday prior to the first day of classes, new students participated in a variety of activities as part of Vaquero Welcome Day. On the first day of classes, Monday August 27, there were approximately 14,000 students enrolled for the Fall semester. The semester has also started for the School of Extended Learning, which offers educational and community programs that serve our diverse adult population.

The Agenda for Board Meetings can be found at least 72 hours prior to the meeting on the Board webpage. SBCC Board meetings are recorded or live streamed and archived for public viewing.
