Santa Barbara City College announces new

Educational Programs Leadership
Santa Barbara City College is pleased to announce new leaders in some of our Educational Programs. As a result of various retirements, the College has been recruiting for several new staff and faculty positions as well as leadership within Educational Programs. The SBCC Board of Trustees will approve their appointments at their next regular meeting. We are thrilled to welcome them!

Dr. Jens-Uwe Kuhn, Dean of Educational Programs

Dr. Kuhn holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from UC-Santa Barbara, a Master’s in Chemistry from Northern Arizona University, and a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from University of Konstanz, Germany.  Jens has been with SBCC since Fall 2008 serving as a faculty member in the Chemistry Department, a valued Department Chair for Chemistry, and most recently as the Project Director of the STEM Transfer Program.  In addition, he has worked as a Co-Principal Investigator on collaborations with UCSB, Allan Hancock College, Oxnard College, and Ventura College.
“I am very excited about moving into this position and being able to have an impact on students' success from a different level,” Kuhn said. “I am looking forward to working with the other Deans and Administrators on continuing to support faculty and staff in providing an inspiring learning environment for students. I believe that using data-driven approaches and working together as faculty, staff, and administrators will allow us to continue to move ahead in addressing some of the challenges we are facing.”

Arturo Rodriguez, Dean of Educational Programs

Mr. Rodriguez was selected as the newest Dean of Educational Programs, Student Affairs. He holds a Master of Arts in Education from San Jose State University, a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Cal Poly State University, and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics.  After teaching math for seven years, he moved into administrative roles serving the majority of time as Assistant Principal, most recently with Oxnard Unified High School District. As a longtime local resident and educator in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, Arturo brings an understanding of our students, our community, and education to this position.
“It is most definitely an honor and privilege to being selected as the new Dean of Educational Programs, Student Affairs,” Rodriguez said. “I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and excited to join the SBCC family.  My goal is to build relationships and trust necessary to support students and staff.  I will work to ensure that SBCC remains the number one community college in the nation.”

Paloma Arnold, Director of EOPS/CARE

Ms. Arnold holds a Master’s degree in Psychology from Antioch University and a Bachelor’s of Arts in History from UCLA.  Paloma has been employed in a variety of roles at SBCC since her graduation from UCLA.  Her nearly 20-year career at SBCC began as a Student Program Advisor (SPA) in Financial Aid, but quickly transitioned to EOPS after a year.  She clearly has found a home (and a passion) in EOPS where she has spent the last 13 years.  After receiving her MA, Paloma moved in to the role as Associate Professor/Academic Counselor, EOPS, CARE, and Financial Aid where she has done an outstanding job.
“I am honored to have been selected as the next Director of the EOPS/CARE program at Santa Barbara City College,” Arnold said. “EOPS has a proud tradition here at SBCC, and I am excited for the opportunity to continue this tradition of excellence. I look forward to supporting our EOPS/CARE students through their educational journey at SBCC!”
