Students Explore Their Futures at Pathways to Success Fair |
More than 460 students explored their futures at IVC’s 4th Annual Pathways to Success Fair on October 1. The event gave students a hands-on way to discover IVC’s 10 Interest Areas—from Arts and Humanities to Science and Engineering—and learn about the degrees, certificates, and career options tied to each. Students met with faculty, counselors, and staff who helped them connect their passions to potential programs and careers. The fair also featured interactive booths and plenty of opportunities to ask questions about majors, transfer goals, and career planning. See Pathways to Success Fair Photos »

Building Pathways from the Classroom to Career at IDEA at ATEP |
IDEA at ATEP recently hosted Manufacturing Day at the Tustin campus, giving more than 160 high school students from the Tustin and Irvine unified school districts a firsthand look at the world of modern manufacturing, engineering and technology. Faculty and industry experts led live demos — from 3D printing and rapid prototyping to electronics and automation — showing how IVC’s programs can launch students toward in-demand careers. IVC Foundation Hosts Fourth Annual Retiree Reunion |
The Foundation recently hosted the Fourth Annual Retiree Reunion, welcoming former faculty, staff, and administrators back to campus. Retirees reconnected with colleagues, celebrated shared memories, and heard updates on IVC’s continued growth and student success. The Health and Wellness Center provides trained professionals to support faculty and staff who encounter a student in crisis outside of regular business hours. Director of Veterans Services Center, Dylan Bender represented IVC at two major conferences focused on veteran transition and success in higher education. At the 2025 Military Influencer Conference, Bender presented The Warrior’s Dilemma: Why Higher Education Is the New Front Line of Veteran Transition, emphasizing the pivotal role community colleges play in helping service members adjust to civilian and academic life. How One IVC Partnership Is Helping Students Launch Accounting Careers |
For Garrett Shakstad, there is nothing more exciting than sharing a room with professors and students. “A good teacher has a huge influence,” he says. “I love the learning process – and working with students to figure out a career path.”
Shakstad is the campus recruiting manager at Baker Tilly, a top ten certified public accounting firm with a global footprint. In this capacity he works proactively with IVC staff to recruit students as paid interns, an opportunity that allows them to gain valuable real-world experience, develop core skills, and work alongside professionals.
