The flooding that occurred in March of 2021 damaged some fencing in our back pastures. Fortunately, our horses are safe and healthy. Staff and feeder volunteers continued to feed and to change pasture assignments as needed to ensure all horses were safe from the flood waters. We even ended up with an extra friend, when a neighbor's cow swam down river to escape the flooding. We gave him some hay and he had nice, green grass to eat, so he didn't want to leave when his owner came to pick him up. Over the next few months we will be making repairs from the flooding to ensure all pastures will be ready for the horses when needed. 

As we anticipate ramping up our programming again this fall, we are in need of several wonderful horses to join our herd.  We are looking for horses that are sound, healthy, between the age of 7 and 18 years old, and 13 hands tall or taller. When evaluating potential horses for our program, we look for horses that can remain calm through fast movements and loud noises, can carry an unbalanced rider comfortably, and are also able to adjust quickly to regular leading and sidewalkers. Saddle Up! has a 90-day evaluation program to ensure horses are appropriate for their new job. We also provide high quality care to our herd so they remain happy and healthy during their time in our program.
