Welcoming Freshmen

20 new students with intellectual and developmental disabilities are starting college in Colorado this fall! Total there will be 72 students accessing inclusive services across University of Northern Colorado, Arapahoe Community College, and University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
In light of COVID-19, students accessing inclusive services, like all other college students, have the option to pick a learning style that is best suited to their health and comfort this fall. Some students have opted for online learning options instead of returning to campus. The inclusive service offices at each school are working hard to ensure all students, regardless of learning option selected, will have access to academic, social, and vocational support.

Happy Hours

With many students currently back at home, IN! has been hosting student-driven weekly happy hours. These happy hours are a casual Zoom get-together to meet and chat with other college students. Happy hours offer a time to be away from family and regain a little slice of college life. Students have led card making, fitness, photography, and have more planned for the coming weeks! Happy hours will continue through the fall semester. If you are a student interested in joining, send an email to shelbyb@inclusivehighered.org

Free This Month: Films on College & IDD

Film director and producer, Dan Habib, has created several films about college, intellectual disability, and inclusion. For a limited time some films are available for free. We highly recommend checking them out!

Opening Doors to College, Click to watch

"Hundreds of colleges across the U.S. are opening doors to higher education for students with intellectual disability. The 36-minute film “Opening Doors to College” shows how students like Curtis, Janet, Fudia, and Missy are leading this inclusion revolution as they immerse themselves in classes, residential life, extracurricular activities, and the entire college experience at Millersville and Temple Universities."

Intelligent Lives, Click to watch

"This film follows three young adults with intellectual disabilities: Micah, Naieer and Naomie, who, with the support of family, educators and colleagues, work toward a future marked with increased inclusion and independence. Their pioneering lives challenge staid notions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college and the workforce."

Webinar: Benefits Counseling

August 4th, 11am-12:15pm, RSVP

Benefits Counseling is a service that helps individuals with disabilities and their families understand how employment and other life decisions (like going to college) will impact their benefits (examples: Social Security, health insurance, housing assistance, etc.). Benefits Counseling addresses the fears and concerns many individuals and their families have about a reduction in benefits if they start to work. In this webinar, Melanie Honsbruch from the Colorado Office of Employment First, will discuss what Benefits Counseling is, how to access it, when/why someone might access it, and more.

How You Can Support IN!

Monthly Giving

IN!'s monthly donors, INclusivists, support the belief that people with intellectual disabilities should have the opportunity to go to college! Sophomore members are those who give $15/month. Each month their $15 funds a one-on-one conversation with a parent, teacher, or student to answer specific questions they have about college.
And...they get some pretty cool perks! Annual Q & A with college students, name listed on monthly donor webpage, INclusivist sticker, and exclusive quarterly updates!
