Bridgeport City News | Bill Finch, Mayor

“Local Officials Consider Conversion of Landfill into Green Energy Park” – News 12
Mayor Bill Finch stands near the former landfill site.
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch surveyed the site of the city's old landfill Wednesday, where he hopes a solar power station will soon be built.
The Connecticut Siting Council, who must approve the plan, held its final hearing on the topic Tuesday.
"I’m hopeful that they’ll give us the go-ahead. The project will create nearly one-hundred jobs and is expected to earn the city $7 million over the course of its lease," said Mayor Finch. "It involves taking a run-down piece of property, and turning the parcel around to become a bastion for clean energy production, which will also help ensure kids in our city breathe easier."
The Green Energy Park would turn the old landfill on Barnum Dyke Road into a power station made up of 9,000 solar panels.
Mayor Finch also authored an Op-Ed for the CT Mirror this week regarding the planned Green Energy Park.

"Mayor Finch Tours Pre-K Facility in Bridgeport" - Connecticut Post

Mayor Bill Finch visited the Pre-K class at New Beginnings Family Academy on Tuesday, September 30.
On Tuesday, Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch toured a new Pre-K facility in the state’s largest city. The school, New Beginnings Family Academy, currently seats 36 kids in its Pre-K program.
“As a parent, and mayor of the state’s largest city, I’ve seen firsthand how tough it is for kids who don’t have access to high-quality early childhood education,” said Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch. “And, research is clear: If kids aren’t reading at the level they should be by third grade, they’re less likely to graduate. That’s unacceptable. But thanks to the leadership of Governor Malloy and state legislators, more kids in Bridgeport now have access to the high-quality early education they deserve, preparing them to one day attend college and to compete for 21st century jobs.”
This visit comes just months after Mayor Finch was a vocal supporter of a bill that was passed by the state legislature and signed into law by Governor Malloy, which added 1,020 pre-k slots this year alone across Connecticut. Of the more than 1,000 new slots statewide, 126 are in the state’s largest city.

"Bridgeport is getting better every day" - Monroe Courier

Construction at Steelpointe Harbor.
The Monroe Courier published a piece raving about Bridgeport and the fact that it’s getting stronger every day.
In the letter, Andrew Nunn – former First Selectman of Monroe and current Chief Administrative Officer for the City – noted:
“With smart investments under Mayor Bill Finch’s leadership, our state’s largest city is getting better every day. And, the city is poised for a much brighter future. At the heart of Bridgeport’s approach is a focus on a number of major initiatives — the re-opening of Pleasure Beach after decades of neglect, the establishment of the Eco-Technology Park and breaking ground on Steelpointe Harbor after years of broken promises. Mayor Finch has also continued to champion the revitalization of downtown and East Bridgeport. Together, this is creating jobs and more confidence in the city’s future.”
“Mayors: Transportation vital to urban resurgence” – Fairfield County Business Journal
Bridgeport Train Station.
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch joined mayors from Norwalk, Stamford and Bridgeport in Fairfield County and White Plains and New Rochelle in Westchester County for a  “Meet the Mayors” event, which was held at the University of Connecticut in Stamford.
Mayor Finch said he believes transportation is worth the investment. His city is planning to build a second train station on a vacant 700-acre property. Finch said the city is transforming its vacant properties into clean-energy parks to attract more jobs.
