Good Friday
Philippians 4:11-13
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.  I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

                 Are you content with your level of contentment?  Charles Haddon Spurgeon wrote, "You say, 'If I had a little more, I should be very satisfied.' You make a mistake. If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled."

                From a prison cell, Paul wrote a joyful letter to some of his best friends.  They had sent him a gift and he wanted to express his gratitude.   Paul had experienced both wealth and want.  So how did he find contentment?  In Christ alone.  Jesus was the one constant in Paul's life after he became a disciple. 

                Like Paul, we never know what will happen next.  That is why we can't build our happiness on the happenings of life alone.  Our joy is all wrapped up with Jesus.  We rejoice in the Lord always because he is always with us and he is always the Lord.  This is our strength!

Pray with me:  
Father, make us content with Christ.  Remind us again today of all that we have because we have you.  Fill us with deep joy, no matter what happens today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
