2 Kings 24:18-20
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah.  He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, just as Jehoiakim had done.  It was because of the Lord’s anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust them from his presence.
New International Version (NIV)
How far does the apple far from the tree?  Josiah fell a long way away from the ungodliness of his father and grandfather.  Unfortunately, his kids moved far away from Josiah.  This led to the destruction of Israel including the Temple.

When Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the Temple of the Lord with fire, he took the people of Judah, the Southern Kingdom captive.  In a series of evacuations, Israel was moved into exile.  God judged the sin of his people by evicting them from the land into captivity.

Sin leads to specific consequences in our lives.  Without repentance, we find ourselves fighting against God himself.  But if at any point we turn to him and return, we can be forgiven.  Have you noticed that the longer we run from God the harder it is to return to him?  So we seek the Lord while he may be found.

 Pray with me:
Father, we have sinned and tolerated the sins of others.  Let your kindness lead us to repentance today.  Draw us back to yourself with cords of love.  Today if we hear your voice, please do not let us harden your hearts.   In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
