At what age does God's grace wear out? 80? 90? 100? Sarah was nearly 90 and Abraham 100 when their son was born. The Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said. God gave the grace he promised. He did what he said he would do. How do we know? When all hope seemed lost, Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham. What time was it? The very time that God had promised.
The boy brought Abraham so much joy that he named him Isaac, laughter. Then he fulfilled the circumcision covenant, as God commanded. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.
I am not advocating that we start families again, later in life. But I would like to see the first verse fulfilled in all of our lives. Substitute your own name today: "Now the Lord was gracious to (your name) as he had said, and the Lord did for (your name) what he had promised." We are all living in verse one on God's Standard Time. God is never early and he is never late. He is always right on time. Live in that grace today.
