Our graduate luncheons are can’t-miss events. They give us an opportunity to thank graduating students, learn from them, and send them off with a parting blessing. President Erik and Dr. Barb Hoekstra welcome students into their home for the graduate luncheons. President Hoekstra opens with devotions, and then we ask students three questions over lunch:
  1. If you had a magic wand and could change anything about Dordt, what would you choose to change? What would you keep the same?
  2. Let’s say you run into a prospective student. What are the top strengths you’d share about the college?
  3. Pretend you are a board member at Dordt College. What should Dordt look like 25 years from now?
The students’ responses are fascinating and have informed policy and conversations from residence halls to the president’s office.
To conclude the luncheons, the Hoekstras share a few parting words of wisdom, urging students to always continue learning and reminding them that God should be the center of their lives.
Graduates leave this place with confidence in their faith community, energized to engage the world and eager to testify to the great love of Christ Jesus.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Steel Bridge team

A team of Dordt College engineering students had a strong showing at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Steel Bridge competition in March.
The Student Steel Bridge competition requires participants to design and build an “easily-constructible” bridge that is about 20 feet long, three feet high, and able to support 2,400 pounds. It must use steel and bolted connections. As an added challenge, the bridge’s individual pieces must be less than three feet long.
