Front Porch Photos

Astonished! Communications Coordinator, Brenda MacLauchlan, is doing Front Porch Photos with any Astonished! Core Members who want to participate. As the name suggests the photos are done, at a safe distance, of people at their front doors or on their front porches. Brenda wrote:
I miss you. I miss being in the same room as you and your friends, enjoying coffee, a visit, a casual conversation, an important story about your life, and the list goes on. Front Porch Photos are one way to be together and maintain safety.

A! Social Club

April's Social Club Event was an absolute blast! Friday night, we worked together to attempt to escape the 'Interrogation Room' from District 3 Escape Rooms. Once again, we were close but no cigar. Hopefully some day we'll finally escape!
Thank you Core Members and volunteers for coming to the event!  Thank you to the City of Regina | Municipal Government Social Development grant which partially funds our Social Club events.  Also, thank you to District 3 Escape Rooms for accommodating our group and providing the best experience for our Core Members!
The May Social Club event is a NHL playoff viewing party taking place on Saturday May 29, 2021 via Zoom.

Vidya Persaud

My name is Vidya Persaud and I am currently in my fifth year doing a double bachelors in Health Studies and Psychology at the University of Regina!
To be honest, I am not sure what I want to do with my degrees or even where I want to work after I complete them, but all I do know is that I have always wanted to be a part of the solution. I want to find ways to help those that do not have the resources to do it on their own, and I believe that Astonished! does just that. This means that, for me, Astonished! was the obvious choice for my placement.
I know that wherever life takes me after my placement with Astonished! I will have cultivated not only better communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, but meaningful friendships that I will cherish forever.

Outside of Astonished! I also work in a local grocery store and in a home daycare, which has really fuelled my passion for working with people. Yet, I find that in my spare time I tend to do a host of different things such as exercising, meditating, reading, painting, and writing. These really help me wind down from my normally chaotic weeks!

That being said, I am looking forward to my experience with Astonished! and all of the amazing projects that I will have the opportunity to be a part of. Welcome Vidya, we are delighted to have you join the A! Team.

Astonished! AGM

We know being in a Zoom room is not the same as being together in the same room. At our in-person AGM’s we loved sharing the energy and the lunch.  Even so, we hope you will join us for our AGM on Wednesday June 23, 2021 at 6:30. The AGM will be hosted via Zoom and there will be great energy, but you will have to provide your own lunch.

Virtual Concert

On March 6th, 2021, Astonished! hosted our first ever virtual benefit concert. Jeffery Straker, Saskatchewan Music Award winner for Roots/Folk Artists of the Year 2021, entertained us with songs and stories from his home to ours. There are many worries, uncertainties, and changes in these pandemic times, but there was also an unexpected opportunity in hosting a virtual benefit concert. Friends and supporters from across the country were able to join in the celebrations!

Morgan Campbell, news reporter from CTV, was an eloquent MC for the evening, Astonished! Core Members hosted break out rooms, and friends, long time and new, were able to greet one another. We are grateful for the support from our sponsors, ticket purchasers, the planning team, the technical support team, donors and bidders in the silent auction and the raffle, and A! Core Members. We send a big shout out to Ralph Wushke who helped orchestrate the evening, and to Jeffery Straker for the generosity, vitality, and fun he brought to our community. You can check out all our amazing sponsors here…..

Open Ears Festival

With the support of Dr. Helen Pridmore, the Astonished! Student Researchers created a video called ‘Coffee Time”. It is part of a research project called MultiPLAY. This project explores improvisation in the community using digital means. One of the many exciting opportunities in MultiPLAY is participation in the Open Ears Festival, held in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, June 3-6, 2021.
The Astonished! video "Coffee Time" will be shown at the festival on Saturday afternoon, June 5, 2021.  The focus of all the Open Ears events is the art of listening. Featuring a mix of local, national and international artists, performances have featured ensembles from string quartets, chamber orchestras, and choirs to turntable art, multimedia, performance art, and dance.  For details about the Open Ears Festival and tickets please click here.

SARCAN

If you live in Saskatchewan please consider supporting Astonished! at SARCAN.
Astonished! Is fundraising through the SARCAN Drop & Go, and here is a step by step at how quick and easy it is! And a bonus is the Drop & Go line is not as long as the other line!

Astonished! Hangouts

What is one of the big things you are missing during the pandemic? For us, it is hanging out with friends. No agenda, no goals, no planning, just hanging out. The Astonished! Initiative: Astonished! Hangouts was a great success. Core Members got to hangout, connect with others and meet some ‘old’ and new friends!  They also had the opportunity to have snack, drinks, including alcoholic beverages with the crew.

Yoga for Every Body

Rebekah Lindenbach and Ruth Blaser have co-led Yoga for Every Body for more than five years. Throughout the pandemic they have led it via Zoom, three Friday’s each month. On May 7, 2021, for the first time, they led, via Zoom, from the Echo Valley Provincial Park. It was wonderful to have all the Astonished! humans join with the trees. Thanks Rebekah and Ruth for your leadership.
Ruth and Rebekah are hosting a Yoga for Every Body session for the wider community. It will take place on June 11, 2021 from 2:45 pm - 345 pm CST via Zoom. We hope you might join us. Equipment: a small ball or spoon. Please RSVP to Emma Hancock by June 7th.  Emma will send you the Zoom link.
