We're excited to unveil the brand new Kathrine G. McGovern Canopy Walkway at Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary. Come visit us next spring for an immersive treetop experience with singing warblers and a bird's-eye view of the famous Rookery!


We're now accepting applications for the 2021 Young Professionals Advisory Council!
If you're a young professional that would like to dedicate your time and talents to helping birds and engaging the next generation of young conservationists, this may be the opportunity for you!


Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary

Mindful Mondays are back! Join us for weekly mindfulness classes in the forest or from the comfort of your own home as a virtual Zoom participant. Register »
Bayou Buddies is held every Wednesday, and there are still spots for the afternoon class! Kids ages 3 - 6 explore their love of nature on a wild journey through the alphabet, learning about a different animal from A - Z each week. Register »

The Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary is open daily from 7 AM to 7 PM. The parking lot and restroom remain closed, but there is access through the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church parking lot. Visitor Information »

Raptor and Education Center

Get an inside look with a behind-the-scenes tour and learn about our native raptors, raptor conservation, and get up close and personal with our education birds.
Upcoming tours: November 7 & 14, December 12, 19, 22, 29
Volunteer at a Raptor Center Work Party on the second Saturday of each month from September - May. Activities include trail maintenance, filling bird feeders and baths, litter pick-up, native gardening, and invasive species removal.

The Raptor and Education Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM - 4 PM, by appointment only. 

High Island and Bolivar Flats

Houston Audubon and Swarovski Optik joined forces on Saturday, October 24th to identify as many species as they could at Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary. Among the 85 bird species tallied for Texas Parks and Wildlife's Great Texas Birding Classic was a rare California Gull found by Houston Audubon Board of Advisor, Cin-Ty Lee.
Volunteer at a High Island Work Party on the second Saturday of each month from October - March. Meet us at this internationally known birding hot spot and help us beautify one of our four nature sanctuaries here, improving both the visitor infrastructure and wildlife habitat.

All members are welcome to join us on a birdy excursion to Challenger 7 Memorial Park and Resoft Park on November 21.
Members 50 and older are invited to join our bus trip to Bolivar Flats and Horseshoe Marsh on November 12.
