Oklahoma Film and Music Day at the Capitol: March 25
Join us for Oklahoma Film and Music Day at the Capitol on March 25 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This FREE come-and-go event will include interactive booths and demonstrations taking place on the second-floor rotunda of the Oklahoma State Capitol Building. This event is open to the public, legislators, staff members and film and music professionals.
Having diverse businesses and participants at the event provides an opportunity for state leadership to connect with film and music leaders, enables professional networking across the industries, and emphasizes the impact of the film and music sectors in Oklahoma. We hope you can join us!

 


OF+MO Named Co-Presenter of Oklahoma Made Film Award at Sunny Side Up Film Festival
OF+MO is proud to be named a co-presenter of the best ‘Oklahoma Made Film’ award categories by the Sunny Side Up Film Festival. This year’s award categories include Best Oklahoma Made Feature Film, Best Oklahoma Made Short Film, Best Oklahoma Made Mini Short Film, Best Oklahoma Made Documentary Film and Best Oklahoma Female Filmmaker. A number of Oklahoma moviemakers will have their films screened alongside national and international works at the seventh year of this fun-filled event taking place in Miami, Okla., March 22-24 at the Coleman Theatre. Many thanks to festival founders Rock & Brenda Whitehead for including OF+MO in this celebration, which recognizes the accomplishments of our local talent.


Tulsa House at SXSW 2024
Presented by Visit Tulsa and the Tulsa Office of Film, Music, Arts, & Culture, Tulsa House is once again returning to Austin’s South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference & Festival for two full days of programming, including live music, educational panels, networking opportunities and more March 8-9. This year’s music roster includes twenty different Tulsa talents, including Sports, Kaitlin Butts, King Cabbage Brass Band, Ken Pomeroy, Kalyn Fay and more. Additionally, Tulsa House programming is anchored by a series of Official SXSW panel discussions, one of which includes a special appearance from Oklahoma filmmaker Sterlin Harjo (“Reservation Dogs”) who will highlight Indigenous representation in film & television. All events will take place at Augustine on Rainey St. in Austin, TX. Oklahoma supporters are encouraged to attend.

Friends of Fairfax, Inc. to Host Oscar Potluck Party in Recognition of “Killers of the Flower Moon”
In recognition of the 96th Academy Awards and the ten historic nominations received by “Killers of the Flower Moon,” the Friends of Fairfax, Inc. will be hosting a special Oscars Potluck Party on Sunday, March 10, at 6 p.m.at Mezzanine on the Main in Fairfax. The town of Fairfax not only hosted a portion of the film’s production in Oklahoma, but it is also historically where many of the events surrounding “the Reign of Terror” depicted in the film took place.

This year’s Oscars ceremony is significant, particularly to the community of Fairfax and Osage Nation, as it will showcase a special performance by Oklahoman Scott George and the Osage Tribal Singers who are nominated for Best Original Song for “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” as featured in “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Their recognition in this music category is a first for both an Indigenous nominee and a member of the Osage Nation.

OF+MO Supports Factory Obscura’s Future of Sound Fest
OF+MO is proud to support Factory Obscura's Future of Sound Fest to be held Saturday, March 23 2-8 p.m. in Oklahoma City. A FREE outdoor music and art festival, this annual event showcases a dazzling spectacle of live performances from local musicians of their original songs inspired by Factory Obscura's immersive art experience, Mix-Tape. This year's lineup of musicians includes Sweetest Pot, Challo, Baileyboy, Cheyanne Marie, Moriah Bailey and Psychic Baths - all of whose original music will be featured on Mix-Tape Vol. 5, a cassette compilation being released at Future of Sound Fest. Additionally, this event will feature a Spring Artist Market with locally made handmade goods, outdoor artworks and other creative performances.

OF+MO Spotlights Film Workforce Development at OU’s Creative Media Marketplace
OF+MO was proud to support and participate in the University of Oklahoma’s (OU) 3rd annual Creative Media Marketplace, hosted by the school’s Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication last month. Designed to connect students with industry leaders for mentoring, networking and valuable career insights in the film and digital production fields in Oklahoma, the event featured informational booths, speed mentoring sessions and a series of panel discussions. Represented by Incentive Specialist Amanda Roberts, Film + Music Production Specialist Jenn Easley-Maynord and Incentive + Locations Coordinator Wendi O’Connor, OF+MO is grateful to the faculty, staff and students who attended this special event.
Calling Tulsa Music Professionals: Take the Tulsa FMAC’s Music Census
Visit Tulsa and the Tulsa Office of Film, Music, Arts and Culture (TulsaFMAC) are inviting all Tulsa-based professionals and business organizations who work across the music and live entertainment industry to participate in the Tulsa Music Census. A community-led initiative to gain a better understanding of the current needs of the Tulsa music community, the census captures key information about the local music economy to help the city and community make more informed, data-driven decisions to support the music ecosystem. The survey asks questions specific to the realities of music and live entertainment workers, including general information about their demographics and occupation types, as well as their perspective on issues such as diversity, equity and belonging.

Meridian Tech Offering Courses on Drone Technology and Film Locations Department
Meridian Technology Center’s First Capital Film Crew Institute provides affordable, practical and transferable training to support the state’s growing film industry. Under the instruction of professional drone pilot Jacob Ashlock of the Thunderbird Drone Festival, Introduction to Using Drones in Film and TV is a hands-on course that will equip students with the skills needed to elevate their storytelling to new heights as they learn the essentials of drone operation for the industry. No experience is required, and drones will be provided for this course taking place on March 12 and March 14. REGISTER HERE.
Additionally, film locations professional Ty Dickson (“Reagan”) will lead Permits, Budgeting, Logistics and Legal Considerations in the Locations Department March 26-28. This advanced level course will cover the budgeting process in location scouting, location permits and insurance, location release forms and location agreement, financial reporting and documentation, as well as legal and environmental regulations related to scouting and filming. OSU-Tulsa Hosting Demystifying Film Music and Motion Picture Storytelling Workshops
OSU-Tulsa’s Center for Poets and Writers has offered public, non-credit workshops for aspiring filmmakers, screenwriters and producers since 2019. Taught by award-winning industry professionals, these workshops give participants an inside look into the film industry. Demystifying Film Music will provide aspiring filmmakers and enthusiasts a detailed demonstration of the often overlooked, but important process of working with composers to successfully score a film. This six-week, in-person workshop will begin on March 25 and will be led by Oklahoma film professional Paul Cristo (“Burn Notice”). Motion Picture Storytelling will introduce the process of learning to tell a story with limited tools to preserve, inspire and share under the instruction of Choctaw filmmaker and clinical professor Dr. Tvli Jacob (“American Indian Graffiti: This Thing Life”). This six-week workshop will be held online beginning March 28. A limited number of scholarships are available for these workshops to those with financial need.

Francis Tuttle Offering Basics of Audio Engineering Music Development and Locations 102 for Film Courses
Francis Tuttle Technology Center’s Danforth Campus will host a Basics of Audio Engineering class March 28 under the instruction of local music professional Stephen Salewon. For those seeking a beginner’s understanding of audio engineering, this class will cover the basics of recording: room treatment, gain settings, types of microphones, audio interfaces and their functionalities. This class will also be offered on April 25 and May 23 for those who cannot attend the March session. Additionally, Francis Tuttle will offer Location 102 under the instruction of film location professional Luke Helms (“Tulsa King”), which will detail safety needed on-location for films involving major stunt work, pyrotechnics and other action sequences.

Oklahoma Arts Institute Offers Free High School Film Workshop
Up to 16 students will be selected to participate in Oklahoma Art Institute’s FREE high school film workshop offered in Oklahoma City and Norman across two weekends in April. This intensive workshop series will provide 8th – 11th grade students with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of creating a short film from master teacher and industry veteran Clifton Raphael, a winner of two regional Emmy Awards. Participating students will conclude the experience with the creation of their own short film. The deadline to apply for this program is Monday, March 11 and must be accompanied by a teacher’s recommendation.

Maintained by Tulsa County Parks, this property is home to unique rock formations, extensive hiking trails, 18-hole disc golf courses and a 9,250 square foot splash park with jet streams, geysers, water cannons and more. Productions will appreciate the wide range of urban and natural landscapes that are packaged within a single location outside one of the state’s largest production hubs.

The park also offers baseball fields, outdoor basketball courts, picnic pavilions and a state-of-the-art community center with a commercial kitchen and other helpful amenities.

This popular film friendly location has been utilized in a number of various productions, including Apple TV’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and the Mike Rowe series “The Story Behind the Story,” among many others.
