Cannes Film Festival & Events Shine Spotlight on Oklahoma Film Industry & Osage Nation
One of the most prestigious and widely recognized film events in the world, Cannes Film Festival will celebrate its 76th year in France May 16-27 and will feature the world premiere of the highly anticipated film “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Apple, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is based on the best-selling novel by David Grann, which depicts the true story of the serial murder of citizens of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation in 1920s Oklahoma. The Cannes premiere of the Oklahoma-produced film, which stars Leonard Dicaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone, will mark Scorsese’s first return to the festival since 1986. The film's premiere screening will be held on May 20 at the festival ahead of its U.S. theatrical release on October 20.
In addition to the official selections of Cannes Film Festival, Oklahoma filmmakers Jordan Martin, Ben Richardson, Justin Jayne and Jordan Wilson will have their short film, “LEAK,” screening at the Short Film Corner as part of ongoing festivities in Cannes after placing among the top 48-hour films in the world at Filmapalooza competition. Congratulations to all of our talented local industry professionals who contributed their talents to these projects, and many thanks to our state, city and tribal leaders as well as our local film businesses and organizations for their continued support of the film industry in Oklahoma.
