NYU Clery Campus Notice

Attempted Robbery

On Friday, December 27, 2024, the Department of Campus Safety received a report of an attempted robbery that took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. in front of 721 Broadway in Manhattan.

The victim, an NYU student, was approached by two individuals. One of the individuals asked for money while the other individual stated, "If you don't give us money, we'll have to take it the hard way." The first individual then grabbed the student's bag continuing to demand money. The student was able to escape and headed to a nearby NYU building.

The student reported nothing was taken, no physical injuries and was offered supportive resources. The student declined to report to the NYPD.

Description of Suspects: The student reports the first suspect is male-presenting approximately 5'8 with dark complexion wearing a black winter jacket. The second suspect is male-presenting approximately 5'11 with dark complexion wearing a gray hoodie carrying a pack of assorted candy.

Walk in groups whenever you can. There is always safety in numbers.
Using a smartphone or other electronic devices, especially with earbuds, can be distracting and may make you a vulnerable target for an assailant.
Trust your instincts. If you feel that you may be in danger, seek out others or an open NYU facility that has Campus Safety Officers posted.
If you are the victim of a crime, do not engage with the assailant as that may put you in further danger.
If you are the victim of a crime, call 911 immediately and then report the incident to the Department of Campus Safety at (212) 998-2222.
