Psalm 103:1-4
Praise the Lord, my soul;
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul,
    and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
    and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
    and crowns you with love and compassion,

New International Version (NIV)
               "Then sings my soul . . . "   Does your soul sing?  When it does, what does it say?  David paused to ponder God's goodness and remembered all of the benefits of our great Benefactor, our beneficent God.

                If we wonder why to praise God we may start with forgiveness.  God forgives all of our sins.  All of them.  Horatio Spafford captured this:  "My sin, O the bliss of this glorious thought,  My sin, not in part but the whole, Is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more,  Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!"

                God heals all of our diseases.  Somebody will say, "But I still have allergies."  But all of us may look back and think of a time when God healed us.  One young friend was fighting allergies and the pain of ear pressure on a plane.  He told me he prayed and while he prayed the pain left with no residual aching.  Our King has "healing in his hands."  Someday, at the ultimate healing, all of our diseases will be healed and we will have new bodies which are incorruptible and imperishable.

                God redeems our lives from the pit.  Consider where you might be if Jesus had not intervened and redeemed you.  We don't know where we would be without God, but we know that it would not be good.  He lifted us out of the miry clay and put a new song in our mouths!

                God crowns us with love and compassion.  What crown does God give his children?  There is the crown of righteousness and the victorious crown of life.  But there is more.  Love alone would be enough.  But God's crowning grace in our lives also covers us with his compassion.  For this, we can be most grateful.  Let your soul sing about these things today!

Pray with me:
Father, listen to my soul as it sings to you today.  Somewhere inside we know that you are good and that you are working for our good.  Forgive us when we doubt.  Help us not to lose our song.  Remind us again of the great benefits you give to your children.  In Jesus’ name.  Since you made our souls, we want them to sing first and foremost about you.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
