Exodus 16:3
The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”
New International Version (NIV)
Do you ever get “hangry”?  Hunger and anger make a tough combination.  The children of Israel were “hangry.”  They wanted to go back to Egypt where they had food.  God heard them and provided quail for them.  When they ran out of water, he brought it out of a rock.  Not once in forty years did he ever fail them.  God did not forget or forsake his people.

Like the Israelites, one of the hardest things for us to do is to trust in God’s provision.  Ever since the serpent questioned God’s goodness to Eve and Adam, something inside us makes us wonder.  What if God forgets about us?  What if the resources run out?  Never doubt God’s goodness.

Paul offers a wonderful perspective in 2 Corinthians 9:8:  “And God is able to bless you abundantly so that in all things, at all times, having all you need, you will abound in every good work.”   We see how comprehensive God’s promise is in the “all” and “every” statements.  All things, at all times, all you need.  God will give us what we need, not only so that our needs may be met but so that we may abound in good work.

Pray with me:
Father, we take so much for granted.  We have air, water and food.  Thank you for your gracious, bountiful provision for us.   Help us to live lives of generous gratitude.  Our of our thanksgiving, let our hearts overflow with a willingness to give to each other.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
