2 Chronicles 29:27-30
Hezekiah gave the order to sacrifice the burnt offering on the altar. As the offering began, singing to the Lord began also, accompanied by trumpets and the instruments of David king of Israel.  The whole assembly bowed in worship, while the musicians played and the trumpets sounded. All this continued until the sacrifice of the burnt offering was completed.  When the offerings were finished, the king and everyone present with him knelt down and worshiped.  King Hezekiah and his officials ordered the Levites to praise the Lord with the words of David and of Asaph the seer. So they sang praises with gladness and bowed down and worshiped.

Love for worship is acquired.  My mom told me that my first Sunday in church as a toddler, I made a break for it under the pews.  It was clear sailing to the back until an usher caught me.  It did not go well for me after that.  Then my mom put me in children’s choirs and things started getting better.  Once on a Sunday night the congregation was singing with such joy, that the pastor stood up at the time to preach and said, “Let’s just continue to sing.”  Unforgettable worship through song that night!

In ancient Israel, sometimes the people forgot to worship.  Over time, even the temple fell into disrepair.  People forgot the songs.  The scriptures themselves sometimes were lost in storage rooms.  Then God would raise up a godly king who called the whole nation back to God.  Hezekiah was such a king.  He was more like his ancestor David than he was like father Ahaz. Hezekiah brought worship back to the temple with beautiful music and offerings.  They sang and knelt low in reverence.  Hezekiah consecrated the people, not just the building to the Lord that day.

Are we going through the motions in our worship?  God can awaken our hearts again.  So often, for me, it begins with beautiful music.  So I listen to great anthems like My Eternal King, or to a Brooklyn Tabernacle piece like Worthy is the Lamb, or to a new song like So Will I, and God calls me back to himself again.  I bring my tears and my words and I fall before God again.  This is worship:  giving our whole lives to God as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.
Pray with me:
Father, take our lives and let them be, consecrated Lord to Thee.  Take our moments and our days.  Let them flow in ceaseless praise!  Let us sing always only for our King.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
