New Document on Best Practices for Structure of College Athlete Medical Care Created (Featured Feb. 10)
In August 2019, a group of health care professionals and athletic administrators met at the NATA headquarters to discuss and provide further guidance for appropriate medical care within the collegiate setting. The outcome of this meeting was the development of the Best Practices in the Implementation and Structure of Medical Care for College Athletes document. It describes an appropriate system of medical care that may be implemented within any organizational setting and resource structure. READ MORE
New Spine Injury in Sport Group Recommendations Published (Featured June 29)
Two articles stemming from meetings of the NATA Spine Injury in Sport Group were published in the Journal of Athletic Training. The first, “Best Practices and Current Care Concepts in Prehospital Care of the Spine-Injured Athlete in American Tackle Football Players,” outlines best practices and practical applications. “Consensus Recommendations on the Prehospital Care of the Injured Athlete with a Suspected Catastrophic Cervical Spine Injury” outlines the Delphi process, which identified eight key questions to be answered by systematic review and was used to come to a consensus. NATA Advocates for AT Vaccine Priority (Featured Dec. 1)
As discussions progress surrounding the release of a COVID-19 vaccine, NATA is advocating for athletic trainers to be included on the list of health care providers considered for early vaccination. In November, NATA sent a letter to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices on behalf of members. Read more on the NATA Now blog. READ MORE

Board Approves GLATA Subdivision (Featured Jan. 27)
During its meeting Jan. 26, the NATA Board of Directors voted to approve a proposal to subdivide the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers’ Association (District Four) into two districts, District Four and District Eleven. This change will go into effect in 2022, as the district is coordinating leadership and administration for the new district in 2021. An NATA Now blog post details the rationale behind the decision and included comments from District Four Director Craig A. Voll Jr., PhD, LAT, ATC.

COVID-19 Resources in Telemedicine (Featured April 6)
Many health care professionals are using telemedicine to stay connected to their patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. To help, NATA has several telemedicine resources available for members on the NATA COVID-19 resource page. NATA also posted a blog featuring Lisa Kluchurosky, MEd, ATC, and District Seven Director David Gallegos, MA, ATC, Cert. MDT, talking about taking patient care virtual. If your institution has not yet implemented telehealth options for patients, Gallegos provides recommendations to consider before doing so.
