August 17, 2022
Greetings, everyone:
Over the past months I’ve been writing to you in this forum I’ve gotten in the habit of commiserating with you over the collective trauma we’ve experienced as a community (in multiple diverse areas) as well as the exhaustion we experience on account of it. But I can honestly say that the approaching fall has boosted my outlook—the season of planning, of syllabi, of office and classroom supplies, of scheduling meetings and brainstorming sessions, of meeting new faculty, staff and students and introducing them to our community, amid the scent of freshly sharpened pencils.
This season, we’re also including a major component of our ongoing DFPA Academic Program Review—a site visit by two consultants (Deans of Schools or Combined Fine and Performing Arts Departments) in which we’ll be able to complement the extensive picture we generated last year in our initial report and key findings with human faces. I am grateful in advance for any and all participation you may have in that visit.
This year, I’m ready and eager for it. I know, we’re still reeling from the past years, but I sense our collective fear and anxiety softening to caution and adaptability. I hope you’ll share my excitement as we start this academic year, and note all the useful information contained below—we begin auditions for lessons, ensembles and public performances almost immediately! As we dig into a new fall semester, a new academic year and a new exhibition and performance season, let’s be sure to do so with a reflective and sensitive enthusiasm that continues to both rely on and support our DFPA community.

Faculty Profile Updates
If you do not currently have a faculty profile on the DFPA website or would like to update your profile, please complete and submit the Biography and Headshot Form . Faculty pages are among the most frequently visited pages on our website. Students often look up faculty when they’re shopping for classes so it is important to keep your profile current.

Enterprise Learning Hub
We'd like to encourage all Faculty and Staff, as part of your pre-semester preparation, to check in at the Enterprise Learning Hub, where lives access to any of the required online training sessions about which we often receive reminders or announcements. We ask you to keep up with those required sessions, and complete them in timely fashion so we don’t have to track you down (knowing that the ultimate penalty for non-compliance is removal from email and university systems). I hope we will be able to continue to benefit from the information we get from these relatively painless obligations.

Finally: Conversion from Digital Measures/Watermark to Interfolio Faculty 180
In July 2021, the Office of Faculty Affairs and the Office of Institutional Effectiveness announced the transition from the Digital Measures/Watermark faculty activity system to Interfolio Faculty 180. This transition occurred July 1, 2022 for all faculty who had previously used the Digital Measures/Watermark system (accessed within LOCUS.) These faculty members should be able to access their profiles in Interfolio Faculty 180 at this time. Faculty should look for more information from the Office of Institutional Effectiveness as the platform is live and accessible.
As part of the F180 roll out, faculty can expect increased functionality within Interfolio’s Review, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) module, already in use at Loyola for tenure and promotion reviews. The RPT and F180 modules will be linked and accessible through a single sign-on. Faculty undergoing an annual evaluation will update their activity entries in F180, generate a preview of their annual evaluation report/CV in RPT, revise their F180 data as needed, attach unit-specific materials, and then submit the evaluation forms directly to reviewers through RPT.
Faculty who previously used Digital Measures/Watermark will be trained in July and August, via ZOOM.

Room Usage Guidelines
The operations team spent much of the summer working in most our shared academic spaces (and a few of our supervised studios) to provide additional cleaning and equipment maintenance. With the large number of shared academic spaces in the DFPA it is especially important that we all contribute to their upkeep. To that end, please comply with the following Room Usage Guidelines. These guidelines and standard layouts are posted on the wall in most of our shared academic spaces.
- Use only dry erase markers on the whiteboards.
- Clean up the room, including the whiteboards. Place all trash in receptacles, food and drink containers should be put in the main hallway receptacles.
- Do not add/remove furniture or equipment to/from the room without permission. A room inventory is posted in most shared academic spaces.
-
Rearranging furniture and equipment within the room is permissible, but the room should be returned to its standard layout at the end of use. A standard layout is posted in most of our shared academic spaces.
- Room schedules are posted outside most of our shared academic spaces. Please vacate the space in a timely fashion in order for subsequent events to begin on time.
-
If additional furniture and/or equipment is needed in order to facilitate the effective use f this space, or if there are any other concerns, please send an email to DFPAOperations@luc.edu.
-
If a piano is present, do not set anything on the piano; keep liquids away from the piano; and do not unplug the piano from the wall socket.
- Food is not permitted in Music Studios or Practice Rooms.

Service Requests
It takes a village to keep our facilities in good working order. If you notice something in need of attention by the Facilities Department, please file a Service Request. Anyone with a UVID and password can submit a Service Request. You can file a Service Request via this link, or by visiting the Facilities Department website and clicking on “Service Request” on the left-hand side of the screen. There is also a handy how-to video on this page. If you are in a hurry, you can also visit the Mundelein Center Info Desk and ask the attendant to submit a Service Request.
