Middle School Robotics

St. Michael’s is excited to announce a partnership with RoboKai to lead our 2023/24 Robotics Program. RoboKai’s highly skilled and trained coaches will teach students building, programming, and coding with an emphasized hands-on approach. Under the leadership and expertise of RoboKai’s instructors, our Middle School Dragons will use a variety of self-directed techniques while receiving guidance and assistance as needed.

Students will use engineering processes and designs to build, test, and improve their team's robot. With smaller group sizes and a longer season, students are sure to be highly engaged. Classes will meet weekly on Fridays from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., starting September 8. The students will work on perfecting their robots up until the early spring competition season. The local/regional competitions take place in late January/early February. Based on performance results, the teams could advance to additional state competitions later in the spring. Robotics is a full-school-year commitment.

Sponsored by the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation, the VEX IQ competition engages more than 1 million students in 70 countries.  Students will compete on the VEX IQ platform in teams of four to eight students under the guidance of experienced coaches.  The tournaments are high-energy events that develop sportsmanship, confidence, perseverance, and other social skills among participants while testing their robots against other teams.

VEX IQ Robotics Competition Full Volume is played on a 6’ x 8’ rectangular field. Two robots compete in the Teamwork Challenge as an alliance in 60-second-long teamwork matches, working collaboratively to score points.  Teams also compete in the Robot Skills Challenge where one robot takes the field to score as many points as possible. These matches consist of Driving Skills Matches, which will be entirely driver-controlled, and Autonomous Coding Skills Matches, which will be autonomous with limited human interaction.
  • The 2023/24 Robotics program is an expanded version of St M’s previous programs
  • This full-year, fee-based program (billed in three installments) includes: registration, new & improved robotics equipment, computer devices, expert coaching, small-sized teams, and entry fees for initial competitions
  • Should St M teams qualify for additional competitions, additional travel fees may apply

Middle School Extended Day Program Registration
Due to the vast extracurricular offerings at the Middle School (e.g., athletics, theater, etc.), enrollment in the Middle School Extended Day program is determined on a seasonal basis (fall, winter, spring) rather than annually. We offer 2-day, 3-day, and 5-day care options.
Click HERE for our 2023-24 Extended Day Policies.
Pick-Up Locations: All parents and/or guardians who are collecting their student(s) from the Extended Day Program must park in the Gym Lot and walk to the Extended Day Room (next to the Allen Library door). Middle School students will be escorted from the Singleton building to Hubbard Hall by a staff member. Parents must walk inside to pick up students and sign out with the staff members on duty.
Online registration is NOW OPEN and will CLOSE on August 18.
