On September 17, 2024, at 8:26 p.m., the Department of Campus Safety received a report of a robbery motivated by bias. The incident occurred at 8:20 p.m. near the northwest corner of East 25th Street and First Avenue, in Manhattan.
The victim, a Non-NYU affiliate, was assaulted by a group of unknown individuals. The victim reported that the group was yelling anti-Asian comments at the victim. The victim responded to the comments, then one of the suspects grabbed the victim's phone. When the victim attempted to retrieve the phone, the group of unknown individuals attacked the victim. The unknown individuals kicked the victim in the head several times then fled north on First Avenue with the victim's phone.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. The NYPD has been contacted and notified of the incident.
Description of Suspects: The group of approximately six to eight individuals were described to be female presenting, with dark complexion and appeared to be teenagers.
