Fun facts: English is not my first language, but I've taught English for over 20 years and published a 4-book fantasy novel written in English. I run and ride my bike regularly.
I can help you with ... UIC information, academic advising, and registration for the next semester. I work with our instructors to make sure they have everything they need to teach great classes.
|
Fun Facts: I grew up in Poland and speak English, Polish, and Spanish, but I also studied German and Latin. I’ve been to over 20 countries!
I can help you with... ELPA (the English Language Proficiency Assessment for UIC admission), the Grad+ program, and questions about applying to UIC degree programs. I also work behind the scenes with Kristina and Vit on just about everything, so if you’re not sure who to ask, I’m always happy to help point you in the right direction.
|
Fun Facts: I spent one year studying in Italy during high school and another year in college. I speak English, French, Italian, Spanish, and a little Arabic.
I can help you with... U- Pass information, how to make tuition payments, UIC information, general Tutorium Information, and how to become a Social Media Ambassador! Also, if you just want to chat and get some candy, come see me at the front desk!

All students that attend UIC and live in the U.S. must have health insurance.
If you have not shown us proof of your insurance or filled out the insurance waiver form, this is a reminder!

| Be careful! Scammers try to scare international students.
International Students will NEVER get a phone call from an official agency. If you get a phone call talking about immigration problems or money issues, it is a scam.
Scammers use technology to pretend that they are from official phone numbers. They also use psychology to make you scared. If you get a phone call, hang up the phone. Then, talk to someone from the Tutorium or the OIS office about the phone call if it is about immigration issues.
In the future, if you ever receive a phone call and feel unsure, please speak with a teacher or Tutorium staff member. To find more information about scams and phone calls, read more>>.

College vs University vs Community College |
Here are facts you should know:
|
-
Both colleges and universities offer 4 year Bachelor's degrees.
- Universities (sometimes colleges but rarely) award Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD degrees.
- Colleges award only Bachelor's degrees.
- Community colleges usually award associates degrees which can take two years to complete.
|
-
When speaking, we can use college or university or even school when talking about higher education.
- For example, someone might say, "Where did you go to college? Where did you go to school?" And the answer can be, "UIC."
