Recent Progress
- Internal IAM project – The team completed the Penn IAM Program Roadmap, which is a phased functional roadmap that lays out the framework and strategic plan for the overall IAM program. Information sessions were held with our campus partners to solicit input and feedback.
- External IAM project – Functional requirements gathering and design work continue with our campus partner, the Department of Medical Ethics & Health Policy (MEHP). The team has selected Amazon Web Services’ Cognito as the single sign-on (SSO) solution for non-credit learners. The team is also in the process of meeting with representatives from groups who manage Penn non-credit online learning programs, and is finalizing an inventory of programs across campus. Please see our recent presentation to the Online Directors Group and the Courseware Steering Committee. If you manage a non-credit online learning program, please contact us at penn-iam@upenn.edu so that we may keep you informed about the project and discuss how you can be involved.
Related Initiatives
- Two-Step Verification – Enrollment of all faculty was completed on October 31. The enrollment deadline for all current undergraduate and graduate students is February 14, 2019, and an awareness campaign is underway. For incoming students, ISC is working with School and Center representatives on the planning and rollout.
- Microsoft Active Directory – In October, an enterprise-wide Microsoft strategy for Penn was delivered to IT Roundtable. This document includes a strategic view of the future of IAM as related to Active Directory. Building on the strategy document, a detailed inventory of the University’s Active Directory instances will proceed over the next six months.
What’s Next
The team is in the process of current state discovery and analysis of University identity source systems, which will continue through Q2/FY19. We will reach out to our campus partners in Q3/FY19 to discuss our findings, to solicit feedback, and to capture client requirements and use cases. Also, in Q3 the team will invite select vendors of Identity Life Cycle Management systems to provide product demonstrations.
