Preparing your home for hurricane season |
Hurricane season is officially here. From now until Nov. 30, Florida residents can expect plenty of rain and strong winds. As we enter further into hurricane season, it's crucial to ensure our homes and families are prepared for potential storms and their aftermath.
Here are essential steps to safeguard your home:
1. Create a plan: Develop a family emergency plan. Establish evacuation routes, designate meeting points, and prepare an emergency kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, medications, and important documents.

Congratulations to new homeowner Joselyn!
|
We want to congratulate new Habitat homeowner Joselyn! She closed on her new home for her family this spring.
She and her late husband shared dream of buying a home for their family. After he died suddenly in 2020, she decided to go down the homeownership road alone. But she found she couldn’t afford a safe and comfortable home on the open market with her single income.
She turned to Habitat Orlando & Osceola’s homeownership program but faced obstacles initially because she didn’t meet the income or credit requirements the first two times she applied. But she didn’t give up. She worked diligently on improving her credit and pursued a raise at work. By the time she was able to apply for a third time, she was finally accepted into the program, and now has a safe, affordable home for herself and her two sons.
